Coco the Octopus

Coco was created to promote Netflix’s Our Oceans documentary series in the fall of 2024 while on the TerraCycle Industrial Design team, and in collaboration with Integral Sculpture Works. The piece commemorates the very first time humans have captured on film the Coconut Octopus using their syphons to shoot projectiles as a defense mechanism. The exterior of the piece is comprised entirely of plastic collected from beaches and waterways from the Atlantic Ocean, Indian Ocean, and the Great Lakes, and the structure of the piece is primarily comprised of scrap material.
